Understanding What Baby's Saying

I have no idea how universal this is, but I'll keep it anyway and see if I can recognize when baby does any of these.  Either that, or I suppose we'll soon enough figure out baby's own language, hehe.

According to the Dunstan method, this is what baby's saying:

Neh
I'm hungry - An infant uses the sound reflex "Neh" to communicate its hunger. The sound is produced when the sucking reflex is triggered, and the tongue is pushed up on the roof of the mouth.

Owh
I'm sleepy - An infant uses the sound reflex "Owh" to communicate that they are tired. The sound is produced much like an audible yawn.

Heh
I'm experiencing discomfort - An infant uses the sound reflex "Heh" to communicate stress, discomfort, or perhaps that it needs a fresh diaper. The sound is produced by a response to a skin reflex, such as feeling itchiness on the bum.

Eairh
I have lower gas - An infant uses the sound reflex "Eairh" to communicate they have flatulence or an upset stomach. The sound is produced when trapped air from a burp is unable to release and travels to the stomach where the muscles of the intestines tighten to force the air bubble out. Often, this sound will indicate that a bowel movement is in progress, and the infant will bend its knees, bringing the legs toward the torso. This leg movement assists in the ongoing process.

Eh
I have gas - An infant uses the sound reflex "Eh" to communicate that it needs to be burped. The sound is produced when a large bubble of trapped air is caught in the chest, and the reflex is trying to release this out of the mouth.

Well, time will tell how useful this will be! :)

Baby Monitor

I'm not sure if we really need a baby monitor, but just in case, I think I've found one for a reasonable price (R520) and all of the 4 reviews so far are good. :)
And it seems to work with batteries or power cables.

Baby Bottle & Food Jar Warmer

I found another cute goodie that I HAVE to have! :D  And it's much better and cheaper than the Yoomi milk warmer that I talked about here - at least so it seems.  Not only is it electric so it doesn't become depleted and throw-away-material after 100 uses, but it can also be used to warm up little jars of baby food.

It takes about 3-4 minutes to warm up a bottle of milk (whereas the Yoomi takes about 1 minute) . . . but at least this one is electric and it lasts forever!
And it also seems quite small and compact, so it's easy enough to take with you when visiting or going on holiday.  And one reviewer said that Tommee Tippee bottles fit in there too, which is good, because I think I'm gonna use those.

Into my next shopping basket it goes . . .  :D

12 Week Scan

So the 12 week scan is finally over and now I can relax more. :D  Here's what we saw yesterday:
On the right you see the head and the 2 hands above it, the stomach in the middle and the legs on the left.

Baby's about 62.4mm big now and the heart beat's at 153 bmp.  And this time we could see the heart beating and the baby moving too. :D  She did some measurements and said the neural tube is 1.1mm and the nasal bone 3.1mm, which is supposedly all normal and good . . . which puts baby at a low risk of having down's syndrome.  She sent me for some more blood tests to make sure that the low risk is confirm even more . . . so now yet another test to wait (im)patiently for!

While doing the scan she also gave her guess as to what the gender of the baby is, but can't be 100% sure yet.  But I'm not gonna say anything yet . . .  hehe.  Since we wanna begin shopping for baby stuff already, we're gonna try to stick with green as the main colour - nice and neutral. :D

Anyhoo, at this point I'm still feeling queezy (some days way more than others :S ), the smell or thought of some foods really makes my stomach t-u-r-n, and some days I'm really tired and I think I'm noticing I wanna snooze more, so I'm not fighting that one, lol.  Apparently I'm to take advantage of that luxury while I still can, before baby arrives, hehe.  And aside from sore boobs, these are the only pregnancy-related things I'm feeling up to now.

11 Weeks 1 Day

Wow, can't believe the first trimester is almost done with!  I hope the queeziness and tiredness ends along with this trimester too, hehe.  Not much fun feeling so UGH every single day for the last month now.

Now we're awaiting our 12 week scan on 11 June.  I can't wait to see what we're going to see then.  Baby should be about 5.4cm big by then. :D  I'm also a bit nervous, so I hope everything is still going good and baby is developing as it should be.

And once we know everything is fine so far, later that week we're gonna tell everyone, finally. :D  Can't wait to see some of the reactions, hehe.  I'll post my "telling the family ideas" a little later. :D

But first . . . waiting to see what the scan shows . . .
