Baby Foods

This is where I'll talk about healthy and age-appropriate baby food options. :)

Organic baby formulas

Obviously breastfeeding is the best choice and don't let any healthcare provider tell you any different, but if you do need formula for some reason, use the best options, which is why I'm using organic.  and if you can't use organic, at the very least use one that is free from GMOs and preservatives.

The organic formula I switched to is Holle.  The SA site doesn't provide any info on it anymore (goodness knows why), so info on the product can be found on the UK site.  Dischem is supposed to stock this (but they're almost always out so they can't be trusted to stock it when you need it, from my experience), but I've so far always found it stocked at Woolworths (usually the bigger stores).  It can also be ordered online here and from Woolworths online if you live in the right area.

Remember to buy formulas that are age appropriate, so always read the labeling carefully.

Organic baby purees & cereals

I've decided to give little Sweetie Bum organic food as far as I can, and I've switched over to organic formula too as from about 5 months old (dunno why I didn't think to do the organic formula since the beginning, ish!).  Here are the organic foods that I've found (in South Africa that is):

Olli
Hipp
Plum
Organix

I shop mostly at Dischem and they usually stock Olli, Hipp and Organix baby purees and other baby foods.  Dischem is also supposed to be a supplier of Plum but I don't see them at my branch.  Clicks is also supposed to stock some of them but they don't at my branch.

Purity now has some organic baby foods too, but I don't trust that brand because their products have been found to contain GMO ingredients - whether this is true of the organic options too, I don't know.
