My PG Week by Week

I'll record all my symptoms and things related to the pregnancy here, week by week (when I remember to do it, that is!).  :D

18 Apr 2012
4w2d (4 weeks 2 days)
16 dpo today & took the first hpt and it was +! :D  (I think it still has to really SINK in though) Tender boobs (since 11dpo), sensitive nipples (13 & 16 dpo) & slight cramping early this morning.  Had on-and-off cramping yesterday and the day before, for the whole day, not so much today anymore.

Whoops . . . forgot to update this!  Well here's a short and sweet update!  During the 4th and 5th weeks I had some slight on-and-off AF-type cramping now and again, but since then they've completely disappeared.  As from the first week in May (about 6 weeks) I started feeling really queezy (not vomiting so far, thank goodness), developed a few food and aroma aversions, and began feeling REALLY fatigued at times, low energy, and more recently needing to snooze longer hours and take a nap during the day maybe.  And so it's been going on EVERYDAY until now.   Oh, and the tender boobs are still at it.

Had spotting everyday from 20 Apr until about end May - Dr said it looked like a slight infection of the cervix, so some meds seemed to sort that out and the spotting hasn't come back again.  Oh, and had our first scan at 9w2d! :D  And our second scan at 12w. :)

And when I press down on my abdomen, I can now feel a bump just above the bladder, which is the womb getting bigger.  It's not visible from the outside on my belly yet, hehe.

Same old, same old for the most part!  But something new that I've noticed over the last few weeks is that sometimes when I get up or sneeze or otherwise use a stomach muscle, I'll sometimes get like a muscle spasm / pulled muscle feeling, but it'd go away within a second or 2.  I asked around and apparently it's quite normal - something to do with your body growing and stretching to accommodate a growing baby.  Other than that, nothing new!  And the pregnancy still doesn't show on my belly.

Nothing much drastic has changed at this point, other than I think I'm getting those stomach muscle cramps a little more often.  And I think my nips have become a little tender.  Oh! And I think the queeziness is becoming less - I don't feel it so bad EVERY day anymore, and some days I think I hardly have much of it at all . . . then I think "oh yay, I must be fading out of this queeziness stage now!", and then the next day surprises me with some really awful queeziness again.  On bad evenings, drinking my vitamins and brushing my teeth become a real challenge - those just seem to trigger something and previous meals don't want to stay down anymore.  :O  Oh yes, I just remembered too - it seems I'm begining to gain some weight again - I've lost about 3 kg (which I could very much afford to lose, hehe) in the last 2 months or so, but now it seems to be coming back, *sigh*.  I suppose that was inevitable though.
And lastly, baby's about 10cm big now, the size of a big apple, and weighs about 70 grams.  It really doesn't feel so big inside!  I wonder when it's gonna start getting more noticeable?! It seems to vary greatly for everyone - some say they showed from 8 weeks (sheesh) and others only from 20 weeks.  I better start using me belly creams and oils for the stretchmarks!  It's just been so COLD that I'm really not in the mood to slather myself with cold creams and stuff. :S

Belly pic from 15w4d:
To suck it in, or not to suck it in for the belly pic . . . that is the question.
Well here it's tightened a bit (from plain old habit!) 'cause I had (have) a pre-pregnancy belly already which I accomplished all by myself without any help from baby, hehe.  So letting it loose makes me look like 6 months pg already or something. :O  2 days to go and we're 4 months along!

Well, haven't felt baby move yet.  But other things like to move around down there, lol.  When I get into bed at night the womb is at the bottom above the bladder . . . often when I get up in the morning it's moved up to just below my belly button.  At least I assume it's the womb, and I can feel it because it's sort of hard.  Anyhoo, we're going for our next scan in 2 days' time, so hopefully we can tell if it's gonna be a Danielle or Aidan! :D

On 17w3d we found out it's going to be a boy!  And on 18w0d is the first time I think I felt him move. :D But only when I rest my hand on my belly, and then it's sooo small that you have to lie still and concentrate if you're going to feel anything.  And he doesn't move very often at all.
And I got stretchmarks on my boobies! Booo.  I definitely notice they're heavier and a bit bigger than before.  At least my mum said neither her nor her mum ever got stretchmarks (on their belly I suppose) so hopefully that means I won't be predisposed to them either!  But religious cream application to necessary areas has BEGUN.
Oh, at the scan at 17w3d the placenta previa has fixed itself, so that's good.  These last 2 weeks or so I've had 3 or 4 days of pink or light brown spotting here and there, the doc said as long as it doesn't get worse and it's not red, I shouldn't worry about it.

We're about half way through the second trimester and Aidan's 51% complete! :D  He's kicking every day now, but I'm still trying to figure out a definite pattern, if there is one - maybe I should start making notes of when I feel it so that I have something to compare it with.  They say that if babies become less active it  may be something to be concerned about because it may be in distress or something else could be wrong, so you have to try and keep track of his movements daily so that you can tell quickly if it becomes less.
My belly is also definitely beginning to get in the way of things sometimes too - I notice it mostly when I have to put on socks or undies or pants . . . I have to pick up my leg more sideways else my belly gets squished, lol.  I can't even imagine how things are gonna be when I'm REALLY big . . . :O
And I think I'm s-l-o-w-l-y beginning to gain some weight - I'm now just about where I was pre-pregnancy, which means I've picked up about 2 kg's again.
That's it, I think!  Nothing else new or weird.

15 August 2012
21w2d
Usually there's just lots of kicking going on (or what feels like kicking) but today it feels like baby's doing lots of summersaults, feels weird. :)  Tomorrow we have another appointment at the doc and maybe another sonar as well hopefully.  And I think the heart palpitations have disappeared . . . SO relieved!  They were nasty, and mostly had them between weeks 14 & 18 or so.
It also turns out that the doc I've found that I really like and who I'm seeing again tomorrow, is not registered to deliver babies, especially not via c-section, so now I have to find one who IS, for my peace of mind.  :/
Sometimes I get a little bloated, but that may actually be nothing new - I mean I got bloated now and again before I was pg as well, so . . . but I may be a teensy more "airy" than usual, lol.  Ummmmm . . . nothing much else really.  I still don't have the frequent-trips-to-the-loo thing, lucky me, and I haven't gained any weight yet either, double lucky me. :)
My boobs are a little bigger and heavier than they used to be, with the addition of some stretch marks, boo.  And my nips/areola have gone a little darker, which is normal.  And I officially need to find some bigger clothes now, I have a very limited supply of loose fitting clothes!  I see another shopping trip approaching soon.

My first official belly pic, taken at 22w4d:
And I'm already struggling to find flattering clothes to wear. :(  So next week
But anyhoo!  Everything else is going good.  'Cept I think I get this heartburn / acid reflux thingy is making itself known to me more regularly which is quite annoying, but as far as annoying pg symptoms go this isn't tooooo bad, hehe.
Aidan's also still moving around a LOT and practicing karate or something, I dunno what he's doing, lol.  And that's all the news I have, hehe.

13 September 2012
25w3d
Hmmmmm, I don't think I have much news, nothing much has changed really . . . except my boobs aren't as sore as they used to be and my nips have definitely gone darker and I think I'm a tad allergic to the tummy butter cream I'm using 'cause I get red dots on my stomach, so I'll be using something else for a while and see if there's any difference.
I'm still getting this annoying reflux / heart burn thingy now and then and when I stretch my abdomen too far too fast I get a belly muscle cramp - nothing serious though.
I also think I've noticed that I more easily get cramps in my lower legs when I stretch in bed - I used to get calf cramps if I stretched my legs without flexing my feet up, but the cramps seem to want to come more easily lately - I've read this may be pregnancy related but haven't done much research about it.  Oh well, I'll see if things improve after the pregnancy.
I still haven't gained much weight - at most at night time when I weigh before bed, I'm about 1kg heavier than I was pre-pregnancy, but the weird thing is that my appetite has increased since I'm not so queezy anymore, and I'm eating a lot more white bread than I used to before pregnancy (white bread tended to make me gain weigh quickly I think, but doesn't seem to affect my weight now!).  Oh well, I'll enjoy it while it lasts. :)
And getting up sometimes from sitting on the floor is becoming to be more of a challenge with this stomach get bigger, hehe.
Soooooometimes I'll have light spotting - just light brown CF lately, but then it goes away again after a day or 2 or so.  I'm not worrying about this anymore because it's happened so many times now and the docs all say that unless it becomes red and heavy and painful it's nothing to be concerned about.
Oh ya! How could I forget - he's also moving around a LOT and his movements are getting stronger now and you can see it from the outside.  Sometimes it feels like he's kicking into my ribs haha, so he's definitely taking up more space in here. :)

25 September 2012
27w1d
The belly's getting bigger!  And I've picked up, it seems, at least 2kg now - which I think is OK since Aidan is now starting to get bigger and put on more weight. :)

The threatening-to-come leg cramps mentioned in the post above seems to have already gone away now, so I'm glad about it that and that it didn't last long.

While I still don't need to make frequent trips to the loo the whole day long, I have noticed that it begins to feel full even when it isn't, so Aidan's now definitely competing for space with the rest of my insides, hehe.  He also more regularly kicks my bladder which is not the most comfy feeling, but it's tolerable - I'm just hoping that by the time he gets bigger he'll kick and punch NOT in that direction anymore though. :O

I think also because he's putting more pressure on my bladder now, I can feel it more clearly when he moves and squiggles around in here (as opposed to kicking and punching), which wasn't always so easy to recognize before.

I've also noticed that I sometimes tend to feel a bit queezy again like earlier in the pregnancy, but it's not every day and it doesn't get as bad as it was before.  And I still have some food aversions - especially when Noob Dad makes spaghetti bolognaise or warms up a peppersteak or cornish pie - these make me feel especially SICK. :(  And I realllllly loved spag bol before, so boo.  I hope these food aversions totally disappear after the pregnancy - not so much so that I can eat spag bol again, but more so that I don't feel so SICK everytime for eternity when Noob Dad makes that food.  :S

I've also been very good and haven't shopped for any more baby clothes. :D  I don't intend to shop again for any general baby stuffs until after the baby shower anyway . . . which is only on 3 November I think  :O !!!

The next medical aid savings depleter doc visit is on 5 Oct again, when we'll also be booking my bed at the hospital, and apparently when you book at that hospital you get a free 4D scan, so I'm looking forward to that. :D

Wow, it's actually bigger than a mere week ago!

Aidan's 71% complete! :)  And I'm beginning to feel it lately - a heavy weight in my belly sometimes.  Not to mention the fact that I'm not able to get up off our soft comfy couches with any degree of grace anymore . . . same goes for if I've been sitting on the floor.

The womb has now expanded to below my ribs it feels like - if I sit slouched I can feel pressure below my ribs on the right side, like there's something pushing into my ribs - well I can do with some motivation to sit up straight! I have a bad habit of slouching without noticing it.  :O

He's also getting more active now - last night it felt like he wasn't just doing the usual squirming and kicking, but it's like he was jumping up and down or something, hehe.

I also think I'm going to get some heartburn stuff tomorrow - it's really a pain in my @$$ and drinking milk only works for a few mins and then it's back again, boo.
The queeziness is still here now and again as well, as are the occasional threatened leg cramps (which I discovered is another pregnancy symptom, but I actually had these before pg as well when I stretch in a certain way, but now I think it tends to want to cramp easier than before).  My gag reflex whatever-you-call-it is also worse since I started feeling queezy in the beginning of pregnancy, which means that sometimes my breakfast or dinner comes up when I'm trying to brush my teeth. :(  And this one air freshener we have in the house . . . OMG it makes me feel YUCK!  Even worse than Noob Dad's spagbol aromas.  I'm so getting new air fresheners tomorrow and throwing these others OUT. :S

Another annoying thing that's been going on for quite a while now is increased CF - TMI alert! - it's not too bad in my case, but just enough to be annoying which means I have to wear a panty liner else I end up with damp undies. :/  This is a common pregnancy symptom too and some seem to apparently have it much worse than me.

But honestly, other than the heartburn and CF thing, I have noooo real complaints at all.  :)

I have some spotting again today but it already seems to be on it's way out again, so probably nothing to worry about.
Also my belly feels really distended - not sure how to describe it, but it feels like the muscles are strained and sort of like they're bruised here and there, or something.  It's a tad uncomfy and makes me want to lie or sit down to relieve the feeling - it helps a little anyway.  I wonder if it's just the muscles that are stretching to accommodate the fact that the baby's getting bigger?

We went for another scan on 5 Oct and everything looks good still - he was upside down at that time and facing backward, which is apparently the normal position to be in before they're born.  SO, I suppose the pressure I'm always feeling under my ribs on the right side lately is his bum?!  Anyhoo, he weighs about 1450 grams at date of scan.

We're going for a 4D scan on 22 Oct so I'm hoping he changes position before then so that we get to see his face. :)

Aaaaand, today I registered the delivery with the medical aid, so that's all sorted, and we've booked for the delivery with the hospital too so that's all set too - all I have to do on the 22nd is give the hospital my medical aid authorization num, and then I think that's all the formalities done . . . until Aidan's born that is, then we need to register him with home affairs (and the hospital conveniently has a home affairs section right there, cool) and register him onto our medical aid - but these are Noob Dad's problems, tee hee. ;)

And I want to start getting Aidan and I's hospital bags packed and ready soon!

Shew I can feel this tum getting big now.  I have no other added symptoms yet and still don't need to go to the loo frequently even though I drink a lot of water - oh well, I won't complain. :)

I think Aidan's getting so big now that he can't really move around too much anymore - I'm guessing so anyway, because all his movements are more or less in the same place now and no ALL over the place anymore.  Although I have read that  up to 32 weeks babies may still be small enough to move around.  At our last scan he was facing backward, so I'm wondering if he's still in that same position and whether we're gonna see anything interesting at our 4D scan on Monday! :)

31 October 2012
32w2d
I'm definitely starting to put on weight now!  I've been gaining about 1kg each week for the last 2 weeks.  Most nights I now also have to get up before sunrise to go to the loo - I suppose I'm finally running out of space in here for both baby and a full bladder, hehe.

So we went for our 31w 4D scan and we got some cute shots which you can see HERE.  As it turns out, he did still have space to move around because he's no longer upside down facing back, but now his bum was at the bottom (kicking away at my bladder, woo hoo) and he was facing towards my left side.  (he's since quit the regular assaults on my bladder though, so maybe he's upside down again?!)

His weight at our last visit was about 1 850 grams, which means he's picked up about 400g since our visit 2 weeks before that.  Our next visit is for 9 Nov so we'll see how much he's weight is estimated at then. :)  And he's b'day has officially been set for 4 Dec!  So now we're just hoping he decides to stay PUT until then.  We have to book me in at the hospital at 5h30 AM that morning!!!  :O  That's gonna suck since lately I'm usually not out of bed until just after 8 AM.  And since I still have to wash and style my hair, it means I'll have to get up at about 3 AM! (which gives us half an hour to get to the hospital too).  Ish.  :S  So I'm hoping that my op is not first on the list for that morning, maybe that way we get to book in a little later . . . at a more reasonable time.

I've also started snoring a few weeks back, so as usual I thought I'd google it and see if it was related to pregnancy, and it is!  You can read about it HERE if you want.  And since a week and a 1/2 ago I've become itchy on my hands, forearms and feet in some spots - it's sort of like a minor rash that you can't see unless you look closely, but not red, and I haven't found anything conclusive about this being pregnancy related or not, since most pregnancy rashes seem to be more serious or bothersome or at the very least red.

My belly also feels huge (doesn't look that huge though) especially when I'm trying to get up off the floor or couch or trying to get dressed sometimes.  My sis also said it doesn't look so big so it's weird that it should make me so uncomfy at times hehe.  So I don't even wanna KNOW what it's gonna be like in a few weeks' time. :O

Anyhoo, I think those are the only new developments. :)

21 November 2012
35w2d
To backtrack a little, on 9 November at a doc appointment we had a little unexpected drama, lol - I wrote about it here.  But it turns out everything's fine!
16 Nov (34w5d) we had another doc appointment and everything was good, so our last check up is scheduled for the 26th.
As far as pregnancy symptoms go, while in hospital I discovered that I've been having braxton hicks contractions for a few weeks already, but I didn't realize that's what I was having!   It's an odd feeling and it's uncomfy to walk while having one, but it's not too bad - at least I know what it is now. :)
The acid reflux is still annoying me - thank goodness for gaviscon, hehe.
Lately I've been having to get up in the middle of the night and maybe 1 more time at dawn to go to the loo, but other than that still no frequent loo trips during the day - seems I'm being spared this little annoyance hehe.
Besides this belly getting (or feeling!) really big, nothing much else has changed.  Oh, except I'm getting more CF which is really annoying.
And I have no trouble with snoozing or being uncomfy in bed so I'm happy about that.

And I've picked up a few kg's during this last month or so - I'm at about 88kg now.  :O  I think it's all Aidan though, I don't think it's ME that's picked up extra fat. :)  At least I hope not . . .

As far as the braxton hicks contractions go, they've definitely become stronger during these last 2 weeks, they feel really weird and I feel some kind of pressure in my chest / shortness of breath kind of thing and what feels like slightly quicker heart beat or something, and my tum gets much harder than it used to in the beginning when I started getting BH.  It seems I'm not the only one so I suppose it's normal.

We have all things ready for Aidan now. :)  And our hospital bags are packed and ready.
And I think I'm already beginning to miss the zzz's I'm soon gonna be losing out on. :O  But I suppose we'll adapt, like everybody else. :)

23 November 2012
35w4d
Current annoyances - acid reflux, too much CF, big belly makes it a schlep to get off comfy couch and I seem to feel full / bloated / uncomfy in my belly most of the time.  And I think that itchy rash I had on my hands a few weeks back started again yesterday, boo.  I'll see if it's still here today.
I think I've noticed that my hair doesn't fall out as much when I wash it, although I don't think it particularly feels thicker.  I hope I don't have mass hair loss afterwards.  :O
I've also noticed that my boobs have become softer / squishier somewhere along the way.
No other new developments!  :)
